Amid reports of some nonprofits mismanaging charitable
donations, the state Legislature is considering a bill that
would increase the authority of the state attorney general’s
office to crack down on organizations that violate the
law. The bill, AB 2327, by Assemblyman Mike Feuer, D-West
Hollywood, would enable the attorney general to take legal
action if a charity or fundraiser fails to provide required
documents or makes a false statement in an application or
report.

It also would give the attorney general the authority to
suspend an organization’s registration if it violates the
law…

Philanthropic agencies last month eagerly anticipated
Facebook’s initial public stock offering, which tech industry
analysts said might create some 850 new millionaires.
They hoped they’d get to “like” some of the newfound wealth,
too.
While the early performance of the stock has fallen below
expectations, anticipation remains high in the non-profit
community.
“There are a lot of people who are philanthropy-watchers who
are looking to see what’s going to come of all of this money,”
says Leslie Lenkowsky, professor of philanthropic studies at

Legislation that would provide incentives for Benefit
Corporations pursuing city contracts in San Francisco has run
into opposition from the state’s network of charities,
questioning the need to provide an advantage to for-profits
with a social mission.
We express our gratitude to Wells Fargo for providing the funding
for our new website. The goal of this project has been to create
a highly accessible resource for all nonprofit organizations in
the region, providing information at the fingertips of executive
directors, staff and board members.
