On April 29, 2013, SFAC held a special event for
“Arts Day of Giving” with their “Open Studio, Open Mic, Open
Movement” evening from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. SFAC galleries were all
open for viewing and filled with “Celebrating the Figure”
artworks and other collections well worth more than a second
look. Artists arrived with sketchbooks, pencils and paints and
eager to absorb the art-filled atmosphere which highlighted
poetry, live painting, dance and music…

Giving, which asked arts lovers to donate to their favorite
local organizations. Pence Gallery executive director Natalie
Nelson estimates that 100 people joined the fun at Davis
Commons, which included drawing exercises and Padilla’s
painting, which were among many activities as part of the
24-hour fundraiser organized by GiveLocalNow in partnership
with the Sacramento Region Community Foundation and the
Sacramento Metropolitan Artgs Commission.
The region’s first 24-hour giving challenge, Arts Day of Giving on April 29, 2013, was both a huge success and a demonstration of our community’s generosity and vibrant nonprofit sector.
At the time of writing, tallies are still being verified but more than 3600 donations resulted in over $400,000 to 78 arts organizations in the region, with prorated matches by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation, Western Health Advantage, Wells Fargo and others, for a total that will surpass $500,000 to the arts organizations.

GiveLocalNow has a good competitive spirit. It’s a
24-hour online giving for the arts. It’s aim is to raise money
for Arts. $500,000 is their goal.
It kicked off at 4:29am and continues until 4:29am tomorrow
(Tuesday).
More than 75 participating arts organizations are asking the
public to give an online donation as small as $25 to the arts
via a mobile-friendly website, www.givelocalnow.org…

With the Monday morning kickoff of the area’s first 24-hour
online giving challenge, the Sacramento region already has
raised more than $134,000 for local nonprofit arts programs.
The “Arts Day of Giving” began at 4:29 a.m. and will continue
through 4:29 a.m. Tuesday. The event’s goal is to allow arts
groups to gain exposure and connect with new donors, said
Priscilla Enriquez of Sacramento Region Community Foundation,
which helped coordinate the challenge.
By going to www.givelocalnow.org, donors
can choose a group to support and contribute $25 an up to a
particular program. The challenge supports groups in four
counties…

The Sacramento Bee, the Nonprofit Resource Center and
GiveLocalNow have joined together to present a unique
“advertorial” campaign in support of the nonprofit sector.
The central feature of the Strengthen Our
Community campaign is a full-page profile in The
Sacramento Bee seen by half a million readers. This advertorial
provides collaboratively researched local information about
trends and challenges in key topical areas of our region’s
nonprofit sectors: education, health, youth services, the arts,
environmental causes, veterans issues, animal welfare, economic
development. In addition, the impact of this monthly
advertorial will be amplified by social media and website
promotions including links for follow up action, connecting the
public with area nonprofits and local resources.
GiveLocalNow provides a connection between donors and area
nonprofits. We encourage nonprofit leaders to learn about and
engage with this campaign intended to strengthen the nonprofit
sector and philanthropy in our communities.
GiveLocalNow is a new and innovative movement in the Sacramento
Region (El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento and Yolo counties)
dedicated to increasing philanthropy to local nonprofits. The
movement has been created in response to quantitative and
qualitative research documenting that the region’s donation
amounts are lower than the national average.
We express our gratitude to Wells Fargo for providing the funding
for our new website. The goal of this project has been to create
a highly accessible resource for all nonprofit organizations in
the region, providing information at the fingertips of executive
directors, staff and board members.
Wells Fargo has been a partner in the project from the beginning,
helping us to leverage the website grant into a regional resource
hub, and we appreciate their dedication.
