May 2012 For Arts’ Sake Newsletter, the Day of Giving is all
about building private philanthropic support for arts groups
serving communities in the California Capital region.
To build on GiveLocalNow, the first annual “Day of Giving” is a
24-hour campaign to focus on collecting funds for arts
organizations. There will be a blitz of publicity, activity
and excitement encouraging people to celebrate the arts by
donating to the region’s nonprofit arts and culture organizations
on one single day.

If Sacramento youngsters have pools to splash in this summer,
they likely will have a grocery store chain to thank rather
than their city government.
Save Mart Supermarket officials are scheduled to announce today
a fund-raising campaign to generate $1 million – enough to open
half the city’s 12 swimming pools and all of its wading pools
this summer.
It’s the latest and largest example of businesses and
neighborhood groups bailing out a cash-starved city unable to
keep pools open, parks maintained and community centers

Catholic Healthcare West has awarded $647,000 in funding to 21
non-profits in Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer and Yolo counties.
The grants range from $5,000 to $50,000. Non-profit
organizations receiving the grants include those who provide
primary care, mental health care and shelter.
Catholic Healthcare West wants to “help fill the gaps that
exist in our region’s safety net as a result of the current

United Way California Capital Region has awarded grants
totaling nearly $1.2 million to 13 nonprofit groups in the
Sacramento area.
The groups take part in United Way projects designed to improve
children’s reading, teach “financial literacy” to low-income
households and helping kids embrace good nutrition and
exercise.

in North America in which Groupon’s G-Team already
operates. G-Team spotlights local organizations and their
specific fundraising needs.

the region, providing information at the fingertips of executive
